To those who claim that Americans shouldn't criticize the US because it may be demoralizing to troops:

  • Are you claiming that we should just tell them what they need to hear to have the highest morale? Isn't treating them like that--treating them like ignorant children--demoralizing in and of itself?
  • Are you claiming that our troops are fighting only for a piece of land and not for our freedom to say what we believe without fear?
  • Are you claiming that the founding fathers of our great nation were misguided when they framed the constitution, and that, really, the government should tell its people what to think and do, rather than the people telling the governement what to think and do?
  • Are you claiming that we should no longer the land of the free and the home of the brave, but rather the land of the silenced and the home of the cowardly?

Your claims have far-reaching ramifications. Be careful what you wish for, you just may get it.

For some reason, this post on Fark just makes me giddy :-)

Hayduke sez:

Bush is by no means stupid.

Well, I have to disagree. I've seen plenty of footage where he either didn't know he was on camera or else forgot it. I saw the interview years ago where his mother characterized him and Neil (his brother) as the dumb ones in the family. I know people who have met him.

He's dumb as a bag of hair. If he wasn't a public figure, and you met him at a party, you wouldn't want to talk to him for more than a minute or so, even if politics never came up. He's learned to behave in certain ways, under the direction of other people, but he probably couldn't pass his freshman year of high school on his own. Seriously.

He's cunning, vicious, deceitful, and manipulative.

To some extent, yes. But you don't have to be smart for any of that. And 95% of his cunning comes from his advisors and handlers.

I am absolutely not exaggerating when I say that this is a man who probably has serious trouble following any movie he watches, a man I would not trust with my car keys. There are a lot of highly intelligent (good or bad) people in his administration, but he ain't one of them.
